FORM STUDIO
E D G E S
This is a project for the FORM STUDIO class. We explored the form from a object assigned from the professor. My assigned object is TIN FOIL.
At first, I explored the material and texture of the tinfoil itself and focused on its character of reflection. After a few weeks’ expiration, I found edge is an interesting part of the object to express that character.
The edge is subordinate to the properties of the whole but separate from it. Compared to the surface, the edge is the most discrete and specific part of the object - it interrupts the continuity of the surface, from which the object disappears or converges. It has the tension between order and irregularity. In the last few weeks of exploration, I used the reflection properties of tinfoil to isolate the edges. In the next explorations I hope to continue to explore ways of expressing edges in terms of changing shape and quantity. Next I will look for other potential materials that have reflection ability or other properties that make the edges can be emphasized. Most importantly, I expect to break down the original characteristics of objects and edges to find more possibilities.
